Pet urine is the one problem where the surface cleaning most companies do makes things worse. Urine goes through the carpet, into the pad, and often onto the subfloor. When you clean the top with hot water, you reactivate the urine salts below and the smell comes back stronger a day later. That is why so many people tell us they have had the carpet cleaned twice and it still smells.

We treat pet contamination as a separate job from carpet cleaning, because it is. A UV light and a moisture probe show us exactly where the accidents are, including the ones you did not know about. Then the affected areas get saturated with an enzyme solution that breaks down the uric acid crystals in the pad, given time to work, and flushed out with a sub-surface extraction tool that pulls from the pad rather than the surface. In severe cases we pull back the carpet, replace the pad section and seal the subfloor.

An elderly dog had been having accidents in a downstairs carpeted area. The family had us out twice over a couple of years, and both times the urine smell was fully eliminated. Repeat pet treatment for an aging pet is normal, and it is much cheaper than replacing carpet every time.

Spring is when we find the most old deposits, because the winter's accidents are all there and the house is opening up. A spring UV inspection is worth doing even if you think you know where the spots are.

Summer heat and humidity make urine odor stronger. If the house smells worse on hot days, that is the pad telling you where the problem is.

What we will tell you honestly

Urine that has reached the subfloor cannot be fixed from above. When the pad is saturated across a large area, the honest fix is pad replacement and a sealed subfloor, and we quote that separately rather than pretending treatment will do it.

Some urine stains lighten but do not fully disappear, because urine bleaches carpet dye chemically as it sits. The odor goes; the faint yellow may not.

Deodorizers cover smell. They do not remove it. We do not sell a deodorizer as a fix for pet urine.
