Candle wax on carpet and upholstery
Freeze, break, iron through a paper towel, then treat the dye.
Wax is two problems: the wax itself, and the dye in colored candles. Let the wax harden (or harden it with an ice cube in a bag), break off what you can, then lay a paper towel or brown paper bag over the spot and press a warm iron — low setting, no steam — on the paper for a few seconds at a time. The wax melts into the paper. Move to a clean spot on the paper and repeat until nothing more transfers.
What is left is a colored shadow from the candle dye. That is a dye stain and comes out with a mild oxidizer on synthetic carpet or a solvent on upholstery. Red candle dye behaves like red drink dye and may need a professional heat-transfer treatment.
Upholstery
The same method works on most fabric, but keep the iron warm rather than hot and test a hidden spot. On velvet or chenille, groom the nap afterward.
